Which major?

I've always had a mindset that I would major in Graphic Design, but recently, I was told to go into Illustration. My friend, who goes to SVA, was looking through my portfolio, and he told me that I would be suited for Illustration more than Graphic Design.
My portfolio consists of poster-like graphics. He says that Graphic Design is more simple while Illustration fits more into what I'm doing right now.

I guess I'm more into poster design and fashion illustration.

For Graphic Design and Illustration majors, what do you guys mainly focus on? Which major would fit into poster design, etc?

Classes Outside your Major?

Hi guys, I'm a freshman cartooning major and was wondering if you can take classes outside your major. For instance i want to take some animation classes--for anyone whose an animation major which classes teach you how to make 2D animations?
